Behind one of the medina's blue doors, near Bab Souk, stands the riad that became Hotel Nisrine. Like the old dwellings of Chefchaouen, it was built around family life: thick walls that keep the rooms cool in summer, hand-laid tiles, windows opening onto the blue alleys. Becoming a riad changed nothing essential — guests are welcomed the way family always was.
« Nisrine » (نسرين) is the Arabic name of the wild rose — a simple, resistant flower that blooms in the Rif mountains around the town. It says what this riad wants to be: nothing extravagant, but genuine, welcoming and rooted in its region.
Chefchaouen was founded in 1471 in the folds of the Rif. Its medina, painted blue from lime and tradition, has kept its human scale: everything is done on foot, everyone knows everyone, and time moves at the pace of mint tea. Staying inside the medina — rather than outside it — is the only way to truly live it.
A clean and honest room, directions given with a smile, and help arranging your breakfast, walks, mountain guides and excursions. That is our idea of hospitality — the mountain kind: simple and sincere.
